Laboratory-grown diamonds are just as beautiful as their natural counterparts, making them a wonderful choice for an engagement ring.

A laboratory-grown diamond has essentially the same chemical and physical properties as a natural diamond, maintaining the same level of hardness (rating a 10 on the Mohs Hardness Scale) and brilliance. Other than the way they’re grown, a laboratory-grown diamond is essentially the same as a natural diamond in terms of composition and chemical makeup. 

Laboratory-grown diamonds are not imitations, they are classified as diamonds and are made from pure carbon, the same chemical element that forms natural diamonds. They are made in state-of-the-art laboratories by emulating the way natural diamonds grow.

A laboratory-grown diamond also has essentially the same optical properties and crystal structure as a natural diamond, making them equally as durable and projecting the same elegant sparkle.  

Like natural diamonds, no two laboratory-grown diamonds are exactly alike, forming with their own unique blend of colour and inclusions. Laboratory-grown diamonds (including those found in Michael Hill’s LAB. Collection) are also graded on the same characteristics as natural diamonds, the Four Cs: Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat Weight.  

It’s also important to note laboratory-grown diamonds are not the same as diamond simulants, like cubic zirconia or moissanite, which are made from entirely different materials.

Not at all. The differences between a natural diamond and a laboratory-grown diamond are so indistinguishable to the naked eye, the average person cannot tell the difference. So other than our clear descriptions indicating the ring is part of our LAB. Collection, a laboratory-grown diamond engagement ring looks indiscernible to any other diamond engagement ring.

Laboratory-grown diamonds are indeed classified as diamonds, and they exhibit the brilliance and beauty associated with natural diamonds.

Laboratory-grown diamonds are also skilfully cut from a 'rough', similar to the process for natural diamonds, to create a timeless shape (such as round brilliant, oval, or emerald cut) and bring out their fire and brilliance. 

There’s no right or wrong choice when it comes to deciding between a natural or laboratory-grown diamond engagement ring.
