What is pavé on a ring?

A pave setting on a ring refers to the way the stones are set, held in place by small prongs, set closely to create a shimmering visual effect. When choosing your pave ring, diamond settings may come to mind, but a pave setting can be created using a variety of gemstones

The name 'pave' comes from the French word for 'pavement,' with a pave band designed to resemble a cobblestone path.

To achieve this look, each pave diamond or gemstone is closely set together using either tiny prongs or metal beads, for a minimalist metal treatment and a textured, undulating field of shimmer. The intricate design of a pave ring is at once unique and timeless, making it an ideal statement or forever piece.

A diamond pave ring comes in an endless array of shapes and sizes to reflect your personal taste and style, including bold band rings and those in our exclusive Stardust collection.

Why are pavé rings so popular?

Pave rings have become du jour with diamond lovers for their versatility and chic, French-inspired feel.

With its eye-catching and elaborate design, the continuous rows of diamonds on a pave set diamond ring reflect light from all corners, enhancing its overall beauty, and combining classic sophistication with modern design.

These types of rings are also popular when it comes to engagement rings, as a timeless symbol of love.

Pave engagement rings add to the romantic feel of your forever piece with elevated radiance and shine, offering a scintillating look that never goes out of style.

How do you style a pavé diamond ring?

With their elegant and timeless design, a pave ring is versatile to style.

Consider the width of your pave ring band. A narrower band will have a more subtle and delicate appearance while a wider pave diamond band will create a stronger impact.

Pair a white gold pave ring with a white gold statement pendant or studs or match with other types of pave jewellery, like a bangle or a pendant, to enhance your look. Or layer pave rings together with simple, minimalist rings to create a personalised ring stack. Stack rings on the same finger or balance out your pave ring with smaller rings on multiple digits for a clean, symmetrical look.

Pave rings do not need to be limited to just diamonds, looking equally as beautiful when set with other gemstones. Create a bold evening look with halo studs and an emerald pave ring or a unique modern look with a black diamond pave ring and a matching pendant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What jewellery do I need for a wedding?

Other than the exchange of wedding bands, there are no rules when it comes to your wedding jewellery.

You can choose to wear as much or as little jewellery as makes you feel comfortable on your special day. Popular choices include earrings, necklaces and bracelets that compliment the bride or bridegroom’s outfits

Which wedding bands go with my engagement ring?

The wedding band you choose to pair with your engagement ring comes down to personal preference and the look you want to achieve. Your engagement ring can help direct the style of the wedding band, and lead you to something more simple or elaborate.

Wedding bands for women come in a range of unforgettable styles, and men’s wedding bandsalso offer bold and sophisticated designs. Your wedding band and engagement ring can complement one another as part of a bridal set, from a timeless halo or teardrop setting, to a coloured gemstone as a striking centrepiece.

Prefer to coordinate? A pair of couples' wedding rings will ensure yours matches with your partner’s. With a large selection of styles, designs, and precious metals, you’re sure to find a set you both love.

What is bridal jewellery?

Bridal jewellery is jewellery worn by a bride on her wedding day.

This jewellery may be selected by the bride herself, or gifted to her in the lead up to her wedding day by the groom or members of the bride’s family. Bridal jewellery can include silver or gold necklaces, diamond or pearl bracelets, and earrings that will help the bride sparkle.

Do earrings need to match your wedding ring?

There is no need for your wedding earrings to match your wedding ring.

On the day and in photos, your earrings may be more visible than your wedding band, so it’s important to choose these carefully and match them to the aesthetic of your dress and hair. This will achieve a stylish, cohesive wedding day look.

Do I wear my wedding band on top of my engagement ring?

Traditionally, your wedding ring goes on first, then your engagement ring is placed on top. Most people like to wear their wedding band on their left hand to remind them of the deep commitment they’ve made and to reinforce the strong bond they have with their partner.

Some like to wear their wedding band as part of a wedding set. This can offer a more harmonious sense of style and creates an ideal fit between rings. A set of wedding rings is also a good option if you have an engagement ring that features a uniquely-shaped diamond or design, with your wedding band helping to provide the perfect complement.

You can even add other rings over time that hold special significance, like an eternity ring, which is typically worn on top of your engagement ring.

Do you wear your engagement ring to your wedding?

While you do not need to wear your engagement ring to your wedding, traditionally brides wear their engagement ring on their right ring finger on their wedding day.

This leaves the left ring finger bare, ready to receive a wedding band during the exchanging of vows. The engagement ring can then be placed above the wedding band after the ceremony - leaving the wedding band closest to your heart.

Can you mix gold and silver wedding jewellery?

You can match your yellow, white and rose gold jewellery with silver jewellery on your wedding day to express your personal style and compliment your wedding outfit.

This applies particularly to your engagement ring and wedding bands - if these are white gold, don’t be afraid to wear yellow gold bridal jewellery. Stay true to your style and accessorise in a way that makes you feel confident, and you will truly shine.

Do you wear your engagement ring to your wedding?

While you do not need to wear your engagement ring to your wedding, traditionally brides wear their engagement ring on their right ring finger on their wedding day.

This leaves the left ring finger bare, ready to receive each of the wedding bands during the exchanging of vows. The engagement ring can then be placed above the wedding band after the ceremony.

What jewellery should I buy for my bridesmaids?

A gift for your bridesmaids in the form of a necklace, bracelet or earrings is the perfect way to show them how much they mean to you.

You may consider purchasing your bridesmaids matching jewellery to ensure uniformity on the day, or you may like to give each bridesmaid something unique that captures their personality or style. Popular bridesmaids gifts include engraved pendant necklaces, gemstone earrings and gold or silver bracelets that they can treasure for a lifetime.

Why are wedding rings worn on the left hand?

The reason many wear wedding rings on their left hand dates back to Ancient Rome. Traditionally, Romans believed the vein on the third finger of the left hand ran directly to the heart, naming it vena amoris (or ‘the vein of love’), symbolizing eternal love.

This tradition continues today in many countries. But how you choose to wear your wedding ring is entirely up to you – some people like to wear it on their left hand; others prefer to wear it on their right. You can even choose to wear it on a chain around your neck, so you can always keep it close to your heart.

How you choose to wear your wedding bands comes down to personal choice.
