While your engagement ring is a deeply personal piece that you likely prefer to wear at all times, it’s recommended that you remove your diamond ring before activities that could expose it to friction, hard knocks, harsh chemicals, or products that can build-up on your piece.
Remove your ring and store it safely before going to bed, showering, swimming in a pool or at the beach, or undertaking strenuous activities or exercise. Remove your ring or cover it with gloves before using household cleaning products.
Take extra care with prong-set, claw-set and pavé rings to ensure they don’t snag, as these designs often feature fine metal elements.
If your diamond ring is in need of a deeper clean and you’re unable to visit a store, follow these simple steps to clean your engagement ring at home:
Fill a small bowl with warm water and a few drops of mild dish detergent.
Soak your ring in the solution for a few minutes, to allow the soap to break down oils and grime.
Gently rub around the stone with a cotton tip or a soft, clean toothbrush to remove grime. Do not use a coarse brush or apply too much pressure, as this has the potential to scratch the gold mount.
Rinse off your ring. We recommend holding your ring over the bowl and rinsing with a jug of clean water. However, if you rinse over a sink or basin, ensure you have the plug in place first!
Gently pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Leave your ring in a safe place to air-dry completely before storing it away or putting it back on.
When you aren’t wearing your ring, store it in a dry, safe place where it won’t be exposed to prolonged light, heat, or humidity. A fabric-lined jewellery box or pouch is perfect.
Ensure your diamond engagement ring is dry before you store it away, to avoid watermarks on your beautiful piece.
While diamonds are the hardest gemstone, they’re capable of scratching each other, other gemstones, and metals, so store your pieces in separate compartments or pouches to avoid friction.
